TMN = Test Model Near-term: This was the name of the codec simulation model used during the development of the H.263 video compression standard.
The source code for
Telenor's H.263 software simulation model is no longer available from this site.
Information about tmn-2.0
: The tmn-2.0 code
implements only the first version of H.263. There have since been several
improvements to the standard with new annexes (in H.263+ and H.263++). For the reason stated
above, the video quality that can be achieved with the latest version of
H.263, is not well represented by tmn-2.0. In particular, annex I (Advanced
Intra), annex J (inloop deblocking), and annex T (Modified Quant), would have
improved the video quality. It is illegal to use the
tmn-2.0 source code as the basis for any kind of commercial implementation of
H.263. Tmn-2.0 was implemented
many years ago and in an experiment-as-we-develop kind of way. There is plenty
of C code that I now would have done quite differently.
